Ray's Pool
One of the older slides from Lot 4. This one has the handwritten label "Ray's Pool - 1950". ...Family Gathering
Another 50's era slide from Lot 4. This one showing what looks like a family gathering. No specific date stamp on this slide, but it was mounted in a slide frame identical to others (probably from the same roll of film) that had handwritten 50's dates. Also, the woman on the left, in the light blue dress will feature heavily in slides...Fish Creek Pond, 1954
Another early picture. This one from 1954. Labelled "Fish Creek Pond"....George H Swarts
With digital cameras I take the approach of shooting many shots, and then (usually) sorting out the good from the bad at a later point. With these slides, where there was no immediate feedback, I wonder what was noteworthy enough to merit the attention. The name on the mailbox reads George H. Swarts (or Swartz). Maybe they knew eac...St. Johnsville Gorge
According to Google, St. Johnsville Gorge is located in upstate New York. ...Wayside Inn
This scenic photo was hand labeled "Wayside Inn". ...Backyard Photograph #1
First of a set of three slides of young girls getting their picture taken in the back yard. Must have been just before something important....Backyard Photograph #2
Second of three backyard pictures of young ladies. This one may be a girl scout or similar organization....Backyard Photograph #3
Third of three. She looks like the oldest of the set. They appear to be sisters....Tallest One Room House in the World
The sign reads "The Tallest One Room House in The World...". From a time when such a thing was noteworthy and did not ruffle the feathers of environmentally minded folks....How do you like the Brownie?
Wearing clothes that would be not be much out of style in 2014, these three look like they are discussing her Kodak Brownie camera. ...View of Viewers Viewing Harbor
Location unknown. Interesting framing of the picture, as if he or she wanted to capture most of the harbor, but also the people on the left....I first met Countess Dönhoff in the Hotel Gehrhus
When I Googled for this hotel, the first result was both romantic and somber: "I first met Countess Dönhoff in the Hotel Gehrhus in Berlin in July 1958 at a gathering of surviving members of the July 20, 1944, conspiracy against Hitler and the wives and children of those who did not survive." (2 Women: In Front of CathedralThe people behind Lot 4 took a trip in August, 1966. The photographer liked taking pictures of these two women. ...
St. Basil's
St. Basil's in Moscow, with the Kremlin on the left....Is she a Girl Scout?
Another in the set of backyard photos from the late 1950's. I don't know what to make of her clothes? Is it a costume? Is the green sash part of a Girl Scout uniform?...Emerald Green Rice Paddies
Vibrant green radiates in this slide from November, 1976. The people behind Lot 4 were on a trip to China at that time. We will see a few more slides from that trip in the coming weeks....The Kings Arms
A few minutes of Googling quickly located pub. It is located in Marazion, Cornwall, UK. From their website, it looks unchanged over the past 22 years....Kerks Pond, Otsego Lake - 1955
View of Lake Otsego in upstate New York....Field Trip
Not sure about the red hats, but this group of kids look like they are on a field trip to a museum....Capital of What?
Any idea where this building is located? It looks like some sort of capitol building....Camp Lunch
These girls are enjoying lunch and each other in this slightly out of focus slide from the late 1950's. No date stamped on the slide, but it is part of a set of red slides from that era where some were labelled with a 1958 date....View From the Tarmac
The white plane in this photo is eluding my best efforts at identification. It is not a Harbin Y-12, not a de Haviland Dash 7, not an Ilyushin. Any ideas?...On Tour
This woman has lost her companion (as seen here and in some coming slides) in this photo from May 1968. Possibly in Europe....Silhouettes
Old buildings - perhaps Windsor Castle, Cambridge or Oxford?...Old Meets New
Pony cart in front of tour buses in this November, 1979 slide. Somewhere in China....Tropical Paradise
Location unknown, but after a long winter this looks like a nice place to relax....Tidy Community
The classic red slide frame places this picture somewhere in the 50's. The topic places this somewhere tropical. Perhaps Florida...The Husbands
Two men. Check back tomorrow for the women I guess to be their wives. ...The Wives
These two ladies are likely the wives of the gentlemen seen yesterday. Presuming that the men took this photo, and the women yesterday, I think the women are the better photographers....
